Rochford Wines
Rochford Yarra Valley Arneis
Vintage
2004
Varieties
100% Arneis. Arneis is native to the Piedmont region of North West Italy. Once nearly extinct, Arneis has made a come back in recent years.
Tasting Notes
Light straw in colour with a green edge. The nose shows stone fruit characters combined with an almond note. The palate is full and rich, much like a barrel-fermented chardonnay. The almond note carries through to the finish making this wine truly unique.
Cellaring
Drink now and over the next 12 months.
Winemaking Notes
The fruit was whole bunch pressed then cold settled for 48 hours to produce clear juice. This was followed by fermentation at 18°C. This year we also included 20% barrel fermentation for added complexity. Early racking and clarification has preserved the varietal characters of this wine. Bottled on 3rd September 2004.
Viticultural Notes
This is the second crop off young vines produced by a prominent Yarra Valley grower. The 2004 growing season was a little up and down. Spring was wet and cool. This led into a warm period in late November through December. January and February were cool providing ideal ripening conditions and the development of good varietal characters. The fruit was hand picked on the 23rd March at 13.0 Be.
