Rochford Wines
Rochford’s Eyton Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Vintage
2001
Varieties
100% Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
This wine is mid plum in colour and of brilliant clarity. The nose shows spice and savoury characters combined with dark plum fruit and spicy oak. The palate has great structure being rich and long, finishing with a good tannin/acid balance.
Cellaring
3 to 5 years.
Winemaking Notes
Produced using our standard Pinot Noir technique of crushing followed by 6 days of cold maceration prior to fermentation. This allows the extraction of colour and flavour from the skins without extracting hard tannins. This was followed by a 6 day hot fermentation which included 20% barrel fermentation. Following pressing the wines were racked to barrel for malo lactic fermentation and 14 months maturation. Prior to bottling the wine was egg white fined and lightly filtered.
Viticultural Notes
The 2001 growing season was warm to hot with some summer and autumn rainfall. This resulted in good sugar levels and flavour development while still maintaining acid levels. Small bunches and berries, combined with low cropping levels produced good colour and ripe tannins.
