Rochford Wines Past Exhibitions
Marcus Dillon
"My recent work combines traditional methods with contemporary
designs. Concentrating primarily on colour association and formulated
within sequences via traditional methods; multiple bands of colour
interact with those around them generating visually stimulating
3D patchworks. Shape, Colour and Structure have meaning in and of
themselves. We react emotionally to these elements even if they
create no recognizable object for the viewer to grasp logically.
I have chosen to work with the vessel as I feel that it is the
most pure sculptural object. The rich traditions of the vessel furnish
a timelessness and universality that no other object can. The fluidity
of the medium is evident in the way the vessel allows for the impression
of depth perspective, airiness and solidarity and allows for other
spatial relations that can be created and controlled by the artist.
The numerous stages of production allows for the freedom to evolve
during a piece. This approach provides me with the time to plan
a piece, multifarious; and then in a moment assemble it at the bench,
hot. Once the work is assembled and blown each piece is cut back,
polished, sandblasted and finally acid etched to achieve a soft
tactile finish. The final work results from numerous techniques
in both the hot glass studio and the cold working studio."
